Hami

Hami City, formerly known as Kunmo, Kunwu, Yizhou, Yiwu, and Hamiwei. Hami City is the gateway to the mainland from Xinjiang, an important town on the ancient "Silk Road", and the capital of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The "East Gate" has an important geographical location and is known as the "throat of the Western Regions and the gateway from east to west". As far back as ancient times, Hami City was the fortress where Zhang Qian of the Han Dynasty first opened the Silk Road to the Western Regions.
